Deborah Kozlick and Sadie Parkin are experienced ,registered
midwives dedicated to providing professional, personalized care
to women throughout pregnancy, labour, birth and the postpartum
period. Their practice combines modern research-based medical
techniques, traditional skills, and natural therapies to encourage
a healthy, active pregnancy and birth. Midwifery services are fully
funded by B.C. Medical.
Labour and Delivery
Women receive safe, sensitive, one-on-one care throughout
labour. Deborah and Sadie have full privileges at St. Joseph's
Hospital and may deliver your baby on their own
responsiblility in hospital. Healthy women with uncomplicated
pregnancies may choose to deliver at home. Some women
labour at home in the care of the midwife and move to hospital
for delivery. Natural therapies and a non-interventive
approach, support women to give birth gently and with as little
intervention as possible. Interventions and pain relief may
be readily accessed when needed.
Consultation
As part of the health care team, Deborah and Sadie may
access consultation with an obstetrician or pediatrician
at any time and provide supportive care when transfer
to a physician is necessary.
Postpartum
After delivery, women may choose to remain in hospital or
have an early discharge as soon as three hours after
delivery. Whether in home or in hospital, the midwives
frequently over the first week postpartum and up to 6-12
weeks after delivery. The service also includes
professional breastfeeding support with a certified
Lactation Consultant.
